Objects that anchor us - do you have one? I’ve journeyed with an etched stone for 20+ years. It's been a silent guide through change, a puzzle in constancy, and a testament to life's irony.

Do you have a little object within arm's reach, maybe perched on your desk or nestled on a shelf, that anchors you just by it being there?

I’ve had this stone for over twenty years and in that time my relationship to it changed based on the circumstances in my life. In the darkest of times, I took comfort with its chiseled message that “Nothing is etched in stone.”

I would tell myself, “See! Events are not static, they change.”

But evidence of deeply carved words, gave me pause. Something IS etched in stone!

So now, like a detective at a crime scene, I hold this physical contradiction under the glaring light of fact. What comfort is to be had here?

On the face of it, it is a stone with an etched message. Guilty as charged!

Feel the finger-tip surface of words, edged by the depth of their cut.  Suddenly the universe conspires to say: Absolutes are absolutely absurd! All is not as it seems, with mystery’s door forever ajar.
